Is this a job board?↓
No. Nobody pays to be listed, nothing is ranked by company name, and Signal will never tell you it can get you hired. It watches where opportunities turn up in the fields you pick — hackathons, calls for papers, research programmes, fellowships, internships — and tells you which ones fit where you are now.
Do I need an AI key?↓
No, and the free path isn’t a crippled one: your words score every listing, in your browser, at no cost. A key buys you a second opinion per opportunity — can I do this yet, what would I get, what does it ask for. Your blocked words and duplicate-checking run first, so the model never sees things you’ve ruled out.
Can I add my own sources?↓
Yes, and you should — the best source for you is usually one we’ve never heard of. A feed, a JSON API, a page with no feed at all, or an account through a feed URL. It keeps the name you give it and is never passed off as built-in.
Where does my CV go?↓
It stays on your machine. When you ask whether something is open to you, Signal sends your own model a short summary of it, plus only the part of the opportunity’s page about who can apply. Remove it any time from Your profile.
Does Signal ever disguise itself?↓
Not unless you ask it to. By default it says who it is and honours every site’s robots.txt. The desktop app has two research options — a metasearch tool and a stealth page reader — that look like a normal browser, which some sites’ terms don’t allow. Both are off until you switch them on, and pages whose robots.txt says no are still refused.
Does Signal scrape X or LinkedIn?↓
No, and not out of politeness — logging in as you is how accounts get banned. LinkedIn already mails you its notifications, so Signal reads those (not in the hosted app yet). For anything else, add a feed URL you’re allowed to read. Sites whose robots.txt says no are left alone.
Can I try it today?↓
Right now. Download the desktop app for Linux: there is no account, and everything stays on your machine. Windows and Mac builds are not ready yet.
How does match strength work?↓
Your topics are worth 4 points in a title, 3 in the description. Words like “fellowship” add 2 anywhere. Blocked words send a listing straight to Archived. Every score in the app shows the arithmetic that produced it.
Where does it reach me?↓
Telegram, once the hosted app runs the fetching for you. Discord is somewhere Signal reads from, not somewhere it writes to, and there is no email sender. In the desktop app, everything stays on your machine.
Will the first run bury me?↓
No. The first check of any source stores what is already there without announcing a word of it. You only hear about what shows up afterwards.
